Afro Tenor records duet with Oliver Mtukudzi
Afro Tenor is the new trio on the South African music scene. Their album A New Dawn is an amazing eclectic fusion of opera and African rhythms that features a duet with Zimbabwe's Oliver 'Tuku' Mtukudzi called Afro Pata.
Lucky Sibanda, Given Ndebele and Agos Moachi are classically trained singers who make up Afro Tenor. Their music has been described as making opera more accessible to the African setting, yet retaining its classic beauty. Afro Tenor recently performed on the opening night of the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA). The trio captivated the audience with their songs, Lakutshon’ Ilanga, Thula Thula, Meadowlands, Rolihlahla Mandela, a song dedicated to the former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela, a rendition of Sarah Brightman’s Time to Say good bye.

The crowd jumped into jubilation when Oliver Mtukudzi was invited on stage to perform with the Afro Tenor’s on the song Afro Pata, a rendition of Mirriam Makeba’s Pata Pata .  Tuku sings in shona, which creates an unusual but unique rendition of opera and shona lyrics.

Produced by singer, composer and arranger Steve Dyer, the album has received critical acclaim not only in South Africa but the world over. Earlier this year, the trio recently shared the stage with their mentor Pavarotti on his farewell show in South Africa.

Mtukudzi has over the years recorded duets and featured on a number of artists' songs who include Ringo Madlingozi, Musik ye Afrika, Steve Makoni, Charles Chiweshe and JK from Zambia.
