Mtukudzi scoops 3 awards at NAMA
Musician Oliver Mtukudzi scooped three awards at the fifth edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (or NAMAs), held at the 7Arts Theatre in Harare on the 3 rd March 2006.
Mtukudzi, who was nominated in four categories, did not attend the ceremony as he was staging a show at Any Miller Hall.
Tuku, as he's popularly referred to, won the People's Choice Award, the Silver Jubilee Award and also the award for Outstanding Album – Nhava. Tuku's accolades were collected by his wife, Daisy.
The event, marred by technical glitches, was also broadcast live on state television. Unfortunately, the poorly organized ceremony was an anti-climax, especially when compared to the preceding weeks' marketing hype. Presenters lacked continuity and, at times, didn't have envelopes bearing the name of a particular category's winner.
