Zimbabwe’s legends rock UK with blasts from the past

The chilly weather was not a deterrent as Tuku and Mukanya - two of Zimbabwe’s legends - went on to rock the United Kingdom putting up vintage performances during their joint Easter gigs that took them to several cities. Both old friends from the 1970s, when they played together in the Wagon Wheels, Tuku and Mukanya went down memory lane rekindling the good old times with hits from the past - stuff that made them inimitable colossal figures in Zimbabwe’s music.

Fans cherished every bit of the rare show as Tuku and Mukanya shared special moments that could only but remind the Zimbabwean Diaspora community of the good old days back home. Following the joint UK tour - who knows - perhaps both artists may be headed for another combined bash on home soil.

Watch this space! And it is not all over yet for the UK as Tuku will, on his next tour, return to Birmingham to fulfill a date that was disrupted at a venue in the city on Good Friday due to circumstances beyond his control. Zimtownship Productions, who promoted the UK shows, issued the following apology following the disruption: Zimtownship Productions wish to unreservedly apologise for the disturbances that occurred at the Birmingham show at The Custard Factory leading to its cancellation by the authorities before it had started. The background to the problem was that we entered into a contract for this show with the Aston Events Centre on 2nd January 2008.

We paid all the monies in terms of that agreement on the understanding that they had all the required documentation/licenses to host such an event, as we had previously held shows at the same venue. On the eve of this tour, Wednesday 19th March 2008, around 6pm, we were called by the venue advising us that they had failed an Inspection by the Health & Safety Officer. Until that point we had never been advised of any outstanding inspections. On that basis, they advised our event could not proceed.
